Naming Your Corporation
A rose, as Shakespeare famously wrote, under any other name would smell as sweet. But is that the same for your corporation? Poetry aside, certain names are better than others in the world of business. Your name conveys things about your company: what you do, how you're organized, the way you want to be seen. It's important, then, to put your best foot forward when selecting a name, as this will be the banner under which all your business is conducted.

Choosing the Right Name
Traditionally, corporations were named descriptively, and their names referenced their membership. However, now corporations are named with an eye to the benefits of business. A proper name is a good introduction to the consumer. Corporate names usually reference their corporate status, with “Incorporated” or “Inc.” coming after the name.
When you file your Articles of Incorporation with the office of the Secretary of State, you need to include the name under which you will be doing business. The name must be unique and distinct from any other corporation; calling your software company “Macrosoft” probably won't fly. Because you may not realize the name you want is already taken, it's a good idea to have a few different choices in mind.
Choose a name that you like and can stick with. If you change your mind, you'll have to amend your Articles of Incorporation, alert the Secretary of State, change your domain name and stationary, and any other items bearing your old name.
